It’s barely been a day since news broke that Jason Derulo and Jordin Sparks had ended their relationship—but you know how far rumors can travel in five minutes, let alone a whole 24 hours.

So in an attempt to nip the nastiest of stories in the bud, Derulo has opened up a bit more when it comes to the breakup, emphatically telling ABC News what did not happen.

“Though I think it is a private matter and intended to keep my break-up [with] Jordin personal, due to bogus and irresponsible lies being reported by insensitive media outlets it became necessary for me to comment,” the “Wiggle” singer said in a statement.

“I spent three great years with Jordin and she is one of the most amazing people that I have ever met. But as in all relationships there are ups and downs and at this time we have decided to amicably part. Infidelity, cheating or deceit played no part in our relationship or our break-up, and I hope that people respect our privacy as we move forward with our lives.”

E! News reported yesterday that the two had amicably parted ways, with the intention being to remain in each other’s lives as friends.

Throughout their three-year relationship, Sparks, 24, and Derulo, 25, seemed to be the coziest of couples, and they had attended the MTV Video Music Awards together at the end of August.

On her end, Jordin hasn’t divulged any details, the only seeming acknowledgment of the split coming in a tweet today.

“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened,” she wrote.
Derulo Instagrammed a grab of the ABC News article, captioning the pic, “My thoughts…”

Calling into Minnesota’s KDWB-FM yesterday after the split news broke, he at first didn’t want to comment, but ultimately said, “Everything is cool…It’s not a bad situation. You know, it’s not one of those kinda things.”
