The Portuguese boss has two years left on his contract after this season, but with Chelsea in good position atop the Premier League table, club officials want to give him a brand new deal, according to the reports, although negotiations will not resume until the season is over.

A new four-year deal would tie Mourinho to Stamford Bridge until 2019.

In addition to their seven-point advantage over Manchester City in the Premier League, Chelsea will play Tottenham Hotspur in the Capital One Cup final on March 1, and will be hopeful of progressing to the Champions League quarterfinals after a 1-1 draw at Paris Saint-Germain after the first leg of their last-16 tie.

Mourinho has yet to win a trophy since returning for a second stint with the club in 2013. In his first tenure as Chelsea manager from 2004 to 2007, he won the Premier League twice and the FA Cup and League Cup once.

He won the Champions League in 2004 with Porto and in 2010 with Inter.
