Morocco’s King Mohammed VI successfully underwent a heart surgery in a Hospital in Paris on Monday for an irregular heartbeat.

According to a press release issued by the Moroccan Royal Palace, the King suffered a heart rate disorder late January. A series of medical examinations revealed an atrial flutter, but a radiofrequency ablation of the arrhythmia performed on Monday at the Ambroise Paré clinic in Paris had successfully normalized his heartbeat.

The King is expected to resume his normal activities without any restriction at the end of a rest period as prescribed by his doctors. King Mohammed, 54, has ruled Morocco since the death of his father Hassan in July 1999. In 2017, FORBES valued the King’s fortune at more than $5 billion. The Moroccan monarch owns a significant stake in Societe Nationale d’Investissement (SNI), a holding company that has stakes in several publicly traded companies, including the country’s largest bank, Attijariwafa; mining company Managem Group; sugar producer Cosumar; and dairy firm Centrale Danone.
