The young woman who accused DJ Black Coffee of filming a sex tape with a mistress was “lying”, say the Hawks, who added that there was no tape.

South Africa: DJ Black Coffee’s sex tape a lie

Sunday World reported last weekend that Lerato Motseke (23) was arrested by the Hawks in Midrand after threatening to leak the clip showing the ¬award-winning musician “bonking” one of his fans.

Black Coffee, real name Nkosinathi Maphumulo, is married to actress Mbali Mlotshwa.

According to the Sunday World report, Motseke downloaded the video from a mystery woman’s cellphone while the two had coffee together, took Maphumulo’s phone number and then called the popular House DJ a few days later demanding R100 000 for her silence.

Motseke has been charged with extortion – and, if the Hawks are correct, she had nothing to bargain with in the first place.

“The girl was lying about the sex tape. She was lying. She didn’t have it. We can now conclude that the sex tape doesn’t exist,” said Hawks spokesperson Captain Paul Ramaloko.

He said Maphumulo’s manager had “told her to bring the sex tape with her for an exchange of the tape and the money”.

“She came without the tape. When she was arrested, she said she lied about the tape.”
The DJ seems unfazed by the negative publicity – he received a hero’s welcome when he took to the decks at East London’s Numbers Dance Club in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Second sex scandal

He has been accused of philandering before – last month he trended on social networks after a university student claimed he had been flirting with her on Facebook and WhatsApp.

Drum magazine, which broke the story, quoted sources claiming that Andronica Msimango not only flirted with Maphumulo on social media but also slept with him after an April gig in Newcastle.

Maphumulo denied knowing the 20-year-old student or having had an affair with her, but she reportedly confirmed their fling to the magazine.

Mlotshwa again came out in support of her husband after her public declaration in October that she was standing by her man despite an alleged affair with model Pheladi Makola.
Mlotshwa has denied both affairs.

Meanwhile, in East London, the chilly weather did not keep party animals away – about 3 000 fans packed the Beacon Bay club waiting for the DJ to start his set. Some told City Press they had come from Mthatha and King William’s Town to see Black Coffee in action.

When he got going at 1am, he had the crowd eating out of his hands. And when he was done, he mingled with fans and posed for photographs with them.

Women threw themselves at him, some asking for autographs and photos. Others even tried to kiss him. Security guards had a tough time keeping them at bay.

Maphumulo politely declined to speak to City Press when he was approached at Numbers and phoned for comment. Mlotshwa also refused to discuss the sex tape scandal.
