Reports suggested that a lot of students had to borrow taxi fare as they could not get their families to give them money in such a short notice. Some students had to look for community halls and churches to sleep on Tuesday night.

On Monday afternoon, the university’s management announced that they will be shutting down the two campuses on Tuesday at 2pm following the continued protests.

Students were given 24 hours to make arrangements for travel and transport. According to sowetanlive report, the decision was made after an in-depth discussion by Senate on the situation at the Soshanguve Campuses, with the intention of creating an environment that is conducive to teaching and learning which is of critical importance to the University. “In view of stabilising these Campuses, a decision was taken to close both campuses with immediate effect.”

Campuses to be reopened in April.
