JOHANNESBURG – There’s been a shooting in Tembisa on the East Rand believed to be linked to taxi violence.

Spokesperson Mac Mngomezulu said, “There was a shooting that took place. Three people were shot and one died on the scene. Apparently she’s still on the scene now. The two that were shot were taken to hospital.”

EWN can confirm that a woman was shot dead.

Emergency Services spokesman Pieter Rudolph said, “It seems like there’s taxi violence between taxi rivals, the Midrand Taxi Association against the Tembisa Taxi Association.”

He said paramedics were only able to get onto the scene once the area was deemed safe. Those rushed to hospital were in a serious condition and considered ‘priority one’ patients.

The taxi rank remains closed after this morning’s shooting.

Dozens of taxis are parked outside the taxi rank, leaving many commuters stranded.

Officials from the Tembisa Taxi Association are also on the scene while taxi drivers can also be seen huddled around their vehicles and commuters are still trying to flag down the few remaining taxis that are operating.
