Tovey recovering well but Shoe’s still in critical condition

FORMER Bafana Bafana captain Neil “Mokoko” Tovey (52) is recovering well following three heart attacks and is expected to be moved from the intensive care unit of an Umhlanga hospital to a general ward by the end of the week.

He suffered the heart attacks on Tuesday morning while playing squash near his home in Mount Edgecombe, north of Durban.

Tovey was captain of the 1996 team that won the African Cup of Nations when they beat Tunisia 2-0 in Joburg.

Tovey currently works as a commentator and TV analyst for SuperSport.

He made over 50 appearances for South Africa between 1992 and 1997 and famously led the country to the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations title.

While, Bafana Bafana legend John “Shoes” Moshoeu is still being treated at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in Joburg for an undisclosed illness.
