In an aim to recognize and reward the excellent work achieved in the wholesale and retail sector the W&RSETA has announced the launch of its second Good Practice Awards set to take place in June 2016.
The awards boast four categories, namely:
First category is the Employers/Companies;
- – Super
- – Large
- – Medium
- – Small
- – Registered
- – Non-Levy paying.
Second category is the Accredited Training providers / Institutions of Learning;
- – Fully Accredited Provisionally Accredited Training Providers
- – TVET Colleges and Universities
- – Sector Liaison Officers
Third category is for Learners;
- – Learnership NQF Levels 1 – 5
- – People with disabilities
- – Bursars and Alumni (International Leadership Development Programme and postgraduate)
And lastly the category for Women in Leadership, which aims to empower outstanding Woman in the sector.
All companies nominated in the various categories will be judged according to criteria that will follow on each company’s business strategy, contribution to learning and development, achievements, corporate social responsibility, leadership and development of future leaders plus the company’s innovation and continuous improvement.
Each category winner will be awarded a cash prize worth thousands of Rands.

This year’s awards promises to be a red carpet, star-studded event with senior officials from the Retail Sector and the Department of Higher Education and Training in attendance.
What we’re also aiming with this year’s Good Practice Awards is to make the event more accessible to the public and media. The nominated companies have demonstrated exceptional contribution in the Sector and it is benefitting that they are not only celebrated amongst fellow industry peers but by the rest of South Africa. These companies and individuals have played a tremendous role in advancing skills development in the Sector contributing to our country’s economic growth

Previous winners of the Awards include, company category: Woolworths, Makro, Lewis Stores, Bibi Cash and Carry, AutoZone, GP Retail Operations, New Balance SA, Molly & Mason, Training Providers: Edutel, Braune Training, Retail Relate, Guest Resources, Contra-Lit, Eyethu Services. As well as learners from Boxer Superstores, Spar Gonubie, GP Retail Operations, P&L Hardware and Posistics.
Nominations are open for the 2016 GPA until 29 April 2016
About Wholesale and Retail SETA
The Wholesale and Retail Sector Education and Training Authority (W&RSETA) was established in 2000 in terms of the Skills Development Act (as amended). The public entity aims to facilitate the skills development needs of the Wholesale and Retail (W&R) sector through the implementation of learning programmes, disbursement of grants and monitoring of education and training as outlined in the National Skills Development Strategy (NSDS). SETAs are entities of the Department of Higher Education and Training. There are 21 SETAs; each servicing a specific economic sector of the Country.
