5 games to add to your end-of-year wish list
2022 had some pretty cool game launches. Who can forget Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West and kung fu favourite, Sifu? But as any gamer knows, there’s always room for more games in your life, and this holiday season promises some gripping titles from indie publishers to popular AAA studios.
These are the games to keep an eye on!
God of War: Ragnarok | November 9
One of PlayStation’s (PS) most anticipated 2022 releases is out on PS4 and PS5. Kratos, a Spartan warrior, and his son Atreus’s adventure continues as they take on the spectre of Ragnarok. This new instalment promises dazzling realms, exhilarating combat, and thoughtful puzzles on your journey to the end of days.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 | November 16
If you love first person shooter games, high stakes, and kicking it with friends while you strategise over Discord, you’ll love Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0. Developed by Infinity Ward for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, this free-to-play game releases on the heels of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the sequel to the first Modern Warfare and includes an additional storyline campaign. Journey to Al Mazrah and fight to the death with big guns for great in-game rewards.
Goat Simulator 3 | November 17
After the massive success of the first Goat Simulator (yes, the developers skipped Goat Simulator 2 and went straight to 3) a brand-new third-person sandbox adventure, where you play as a goat, is back! Group up with friends and assemble your herd as you wreak complete havoc on any and all humans! It’s hilarious, dark, and definitely not suited for kids. You’ve been warned! Goat Simulator 3 will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, PS4Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
The Callisto Protocol | December 2
Get ready for a next-generation take on survival horror games. Play as Jacob Lee, an inmate at the Black Iron Prison, a maximum-security penitentiary located on Jupiter’s moon, Callisto. Things quicky get out of hand when prisoners start to transform into monstrous creatures. Our hero has one thing left to do: kill or be killed. Immerse yourself in this narrative-driven game as you take in every brutal and terrifying moment. Play The Callisto Protocol when it launches for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion | December 13
Back in 1987, a gaming studio called Square released Final Fantasy not knowing the immense following it would generate. Now, after more than three decades, the role-playing game is still loved by young and old and very active. However, this latest release marks something special. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion is an HD remastered version of the 2007 smash hit prequel to Final Fantasy VII. In this saga, we follow Zack Fair as he goes on a quest to find a missing soldier. Expect remastered HD graphics, fully voiced dialogue, and new soundtrack arrangements. It will be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and even Nintendo Switch.
The best way to play in 2022
It’s clear from this list that games are getting bigger with better graphics. Not having a proper display is definitely ruining your experience. Gamers need a screen that can run games at any frame rate – 60Hz is the bare minimum, but 144Hz will boost performance.
The LG 34″ UltraWide™ QHD UltraGear Nano Gaming Monitor offers a 144Hz refresh rate, with the option to overclock performance to 180Hz. But that’s not all. The screen comes with Nvidia G-Sync Ultimate or AMD FreeSync Premium Pro for smoother gaming without annoying screen tearing or stuttering. With an incredibly fast response rate – 1ms (GtG) – games like Call of Duty will be much more detailed as the screen is able to keep up with critical moments in real time. Pair this with VESA DisplayHDR 600 and you’ll be able to experience dramatic colour, just as the game developers intended.
And if you’re planning to put in the hours and play the heck out of these popular upcoming titles, rest assured that your eyes won’t take a beating. Sphere Lighting 2.0 creates an indirect light source to reduce eye fatigue and offers colour settings that you can customise for every experience, including Sound Sync Mode and Video Sync Mode.
With so many epic titles coming to a game engine this festive season, make sure to add some specialised hardware to your holiday must-have list too. Because, let’s face it, you’re shooting yourself in the foot by playing on a 60Hz screen. It’s time you play at your full potential.
