If you were not at the Ticketpro Dome last night, you definitely missed out!

The MAMA awards were worth experiencing live.

The red carpet came alive as cameras flashed, journalist’s reported on the glitz and glam and shinning lights bounced off well dressed celebrities. The moment we had all been waiting for finally arrived as Bonang announced that it was show time, in the process setting the crowded Dome ablaze with jubilation.

Here are five incredible moments we wish you were there to see:

Babes Wodumo shuts the Dome down!

This year has definitely been a great year for Durban’s self proclaimed gqom star, Babes Wodumo and last night was surely the icing on the cake! The energy in the Dome cranked high when the instrumental of ‘Wololo’ came on. Babes Wodumo and Mapintsha stormed on stage with a team of dancers shortly after and the crowd simply went berserk!

Caster Semenya wins ‘gold’ at the MAMAs

Caster Semenya proved yet again that she does more than just winning 800m races. Last night, the Olympic gold medalist won the Personality of the Year category beating the likes of Linda Ikeji, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Pearl Thusi and Wizkid to the ‘finish line’. The crowd cheered the much loved champion as she made her acceptance speech. (It still felt a bit strange to hear Caster dedicate the award to the “beloved wife”)

A moving tribute to Kwaito legend,Mandoza

This year, South Africa was rocked by the heartbreaking news that Mandoza was battling with brain cancer. Tragically, he lost the battle recently.

Yesterday, lighters were held up in the dark as a moving moment of silence was observed for the legendary Kwaito luminary. M’DU and Dj Cleo performed ‘Sigelekeqe’ and a song that almost replaced the national anthem, ‘Nkalakatha,’ In honor of Mandoza. The musicians put in a performance that would have made the late great proud.

The Ojuelegbe tour with Wizkid

One of the major highlight’s of the night was wizkid taking the crowd on a lovely tour of the streets of Ojuelegbe with his popular classic hit song. The harmonies of the Soweto Gospel choir coupled with blaring trumpets and the sounds of beautiful violins left the crowd in a trance as they sang along. Africa was also treated to cameo appearances by Uhuru and Emtee on Wizkid’s set. It was epic!

FUTURE!

The MAMA’s saved the best for last with a energetic performance by International star, Future. It was easy to forget about the prestigious awards as the night slowly morphed into a mini-Future concert. He performed an impressive catalogue of  hit songs that included ‘I got the Keys’, ’Bugatti’ and ’Turn on the lights’.His performances definitely had everybody at the Ticket pro Dome turned up!

From Patoranking launching a new dance step called ‘the window’ to Hugh Masikela showing off his laughable rap skills as he picked up the Legend Awards, the show had exciting moments.

Was Trevor Noah sorely missed?

Well….a little bit… Ok, yes he was…..but Bonang Matheba was born ready….
