Johannesburg – Efficient Group chief economist Dawie Roodt was hacked with a panga during an armed robbery outside his home in a security estate in Pretoria, Gauteng police said on Friday.
“A well known economist, Mr Dawie Roodt was stabbed last night while protecting his daughter from four assailants at his Pretoria East home,” Lieutenant-Colonel Katlego Mogale said in a statement.
“It is alleged that Mr Roodt’s daughter was visiting and as she came to the gate, she was confronted by four suspects.
“Two suspects were armed with a panga and a revolver. They forced her into the house where they tied up all of the family and demanded money. Mr Roodt indicated that there was money in the car outside,” Mogale said.
