The Sunday Times has published its rich-list for 2015, showing that South Africa has 52 billionaires, with a combined wealth exceeding R334 billion.
Topping the list for 2015, is Christo Wiese, who has seen his wealth swell by 200%, to R104.8 billion, according to the paper.
The list was compiled by Who Owns Whom, which extracted the shareholdings of company executives, using market prices reflected on November 30, 2015.
Wiese has a 34.55% share in Brait SE, along with a 17.29% holding in Steinhoff International, which boosted earnings by R28.8 billion, and R56.5 billion respectively. Wiese also handily holds a 15.75% stake in Shoprite Holdings, worth R12.8 billion in 2015.
Ivan Glasenburg has had a torrid 2015. The chief executive of commodities giant Glencore, has seen is fortune plummet in 2015, but still comes in at number two.
John Whittaker, of Intu Properties, is third, followed by Aspen Pharamacare’s Stephen Saad, and Bruno Steinhoff of Steinhoff fame – a South African-based international furniture and household goods retail chain.

Discovery’s Adrian Gore featured at no12 on the list, with R72 billion fortune due to his 7.765 holding in the financial services firm, while Patrice Motsepe’s fortune amounted to R3.8 billion, due to a 40.35% holding in African Rainbow Minerals.
Johann Rupert was 20th on the list, with investments in Richemont, Reinet Investments, and Remgro amounting to a fortune of R3.6 billion.
