Singer and poet Lilitha Bidla has poured her frustration about the Marikana massacre into song with the upcoming release of her debut album, Marikana.
[full]The singer comes from Mount Ayliff, one of the areas where families lost their breadwinners in the 2012 massacre.
“I wrote the song to show those who were affected by the incident that they are not alone. All South Africans are with them,” said Bidla.
” I took this thing as though it happened to me because I felt the way it was handled. The cries of the families were not heard,” she said.
One of Bidla’s songs tells the story of a man who leaves his family for the mines to try and make a living.
“Their families had hope that they would return, but that never happened,” she said.
Marikana launches next month.[/full]
