The newly-established monthly comedy show, Fork and Comedy, is set to host a #ComedyGivesBack showcase on 18 July to coincide with Mandela Day.

The #ComedyGivesBack event, which will be hosted at Fireman’s Arms in Cape Town’s City Bowl, will see some of Cape Town’s top comedians take to the comedy stage, as part of their 67 minutes, philanthropic contribution on Mandela Day this year.

Some of the comedians confirmed for the line-up includes Rob Van Vuuren, Dalin Oliver, Carl Weber Brent Palmer, Shimmy Isaacs, KG, Lungelo Ndlovu, Devin Gray, Liam Bento, CJ Benson, Jarryd Pillay and Paul Cowan.

Completing the schedule of comedy acts on the evening are: Stuart Cairns, Mum-Z, Peter Sserwanga , Westley Cockrell , Martin Davis, Gino Fernandez, Darren Amos Amos and Yaaseen Barnes

Fork and Comedy is a monthly-run event by two Capetonians, Brandon Lewis and Clyde Cupido – both have been in the comedy industry “for a while now”, and decided to put together their own show.

“For Brandon and myself, the comedy industry, although it’s grown in Cape Town over the past few years, is still in it’s infancy. We’ve opened this show to create more exposure for comedians on more than one level. This allows for up and coming comedians to be on the same stage as the more established comedians, and thereby grow their fan base,” says Clyde.

Based on the initial success of the show, Brandon and Clyde, along with other industry professionals, started the #ComedyGivesBack initiative at the showcase.

“This initiative grew from profits made at Fork and Comedy, together with the contributions from its good-hearted supporters,” explains Brandon.

Clyde says comedians get to take time out of their busy schedules to help those who need their hands. “Fork and Comedy is not only about the comedy and laughter; it’s about bringing joy to all of those in need and putting smiles on their faces.”

To date, Fork and Comedy has already showcased three #ComedyGivesBack events but are excited to put together the special Mandela day showcase.

“The #ComedyGivesBack is a great way for comedians to show their fans that while being funny, cocky, witty and an entertainer is great career to partake in; we should never forget about those less fortunate than us all. While we may be laughing, there are others who have forgotten how to smile.”

Tickets for the Mandela Day #ComedyGivesBack event will be sold at R50 each, and together with a sanitary product, this will guarantee you a seat at the show. All proceeds will go towards buying sanitary products for Girls In School initiative.
