South African celebrities in partnership with Nigerian nationals in South Africa as well as citizens on Thursday marched to the Nigerian embassy in support of the abducted 234 Nigerian girls.
Musician Ntsiki Mazwai said: “If the whole world can fight for rhinos why can’t they fight for the lives of over 200 innocent children? At this very moment a little girl is being raped and some will bear rape children. The silence shows that a life of an African child is not taken serious but today we saying enough is enough”.
Radio presenter Thami Ngubeni said: “Human trafficking is a serious problem and as Africans we need to take a stand against it. Why did it take us so long to act? African voice can be a solution to this African problem”.
She also said the world at large needs to pray for the safe return of the children and ask almighty to look over the innocent souls.
Nozizwe Madlala-Rouledge,executive director of Embrace Dignity said: “We cannot be bystanders while girls and women in India, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan and Syria continue to bear the brunt of wars they did not start,” said Madlala-Rouledge.
Nigerian Consul Jonathan Ezeh said: “I wish to thank South Africans for sharing our pain. Our government has called on International community to assist in whatever possible to locate the girls and bring them safe.
