A group of SA’s favourite celebrities have added their voices to No To Femicide, the new anti-violence on women single by Kamisa. Released this month to mark the start of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the R&B single speaks from the heart.
“The song is about the current situation our country is facing where Gender-Based Violence has become the norm. We want this song to create awareness amongst men, who in most cases are the main perpetrators – so that they will stand up and oppose Violence against Women and Children. Gender-Based Violence is not acceptable in any Society” says Kamisa’s Mr Linx.

Many stars appear in the music video with cameos including actor Siv Ngesi, cricket icon JP Duminy, radio star Stan Mars, music star Choccy Chox (Matthew O’Connell), comedian Kurt Schoonraad, music legend Grandmaster DJ Ready D, and MMA Champ Faeez Jacobs.

“Kamisa was fortunate enough to work with Randall Jean-Pierre, one of the most talented composers and producers in Cape Town. We also asked Siv Ngesi, known for being vocal on social media against Gender-Based Violence to perform a powerful spoken-word piece on the song” says Kamisa member Jay-P.
Where did the inspiration for the song come from? Jay-P explains: A close family friend is a nursing sister at the Saartjie Baartman Centre in Cape Town.
In March she told us about a devastating fire that ripped through the Centre and destroyed the sleeping quarters of the abused women and children that the Centre looks after.
Kamisa wants to use No To Femicide as a tool to speak to our fellow men and young boys to bring an end to this absolutely ugly and unacceptable scourge, and we also want to use the song to somehow help the Centre to raise funds so that they can restore the damage caused by the fire.
