“We must stop waiting and hoping for a better future and start taking chances and doing something to change our circumstances. There is no better time than now to pursue your dreams,” reveals Morné about the meaning behind his first solo single.
VANDAG is an uplifting Afrikaans pop song that was written by Vaughan Gardiner. The song immediately resonated with the artist because he has also recently taken a leap of faith and started pursuing a career in music.
“Everyone has something that they want to achieve or do. Doubt and other people’s opinions often cause us to give up on these dreams,” the singer explains. “I have taken a big step in my own life and have decided not to wait any longer to make my dream a reality. It is never too late.”
The single not only showcases Morné’s rich soothing vocals, but also boasts a catchy tune and positive message that audiences of all ages will be able to relate to.
A music video of the single will also be released soon.
Morné grew up in the East Rand and has been working in the music industry for two years. He gained fame as part of the group, Virander, whose song – Sing ’n Hallelujah – was one of Maroela Media’s Top 40 songs for 2020. It can still be heard on the radio and the music video has already been viewed by more than 450 000 people on YouTube.
Although he started playing guitar at the age of fifteen and is a worship leader at his church, he only recently decided to take a chance on his own music dream and also works as a photographer and graphic designer to make a living.
The artist enjoys listening to a wide variety of music, but credits the Switchfoot, Brandon Lake, John Mayer and Cory Asbury as having the biggest influence on his own musical style. He also reveals that he would love to work with the likes of Roan Ash, Karen Zoid and Bernice West someday.
Morné says: “I want to write and sing about things that I have experienced in my own life and that mean something to me. I want to create positive, inspiring music about things that we all deal with every day.”
He is someone who is passionate about music, nature and his family and shares that he would like to travel a lot in the future. For now, however, he is focusing on marketing his new single, gathering material for his first album and being a good father to his daughter, who was born in 2020.
