“STOF is about the person in your life who knows you best and always comes back no matter what,” says Christiaan Baartman about the meaning behind his brand-new single, which he co-produced with Leon Gropp.
According to the Huisgenoot Tempo and Ghoema-acclaimed musician, with his raspy voice, he wrote the chorus of the song years ago. A dream about starving rhinos inspired him to finish it and that is why these animals also feature in the music video.
“I don’t see this as my own creation, but as a letter to humanity from a greater place. There are always things in your life that are more important than others but protect what makes you a better person and get rid of the things that poison your life,” he explains. “It is a song that speaks to the heart and resonates with audiences of all ages.”
STOF is the ninety seventh single from Christiaan’s own pen and follows in the footsteps of the catchy duet, ‘n Vriend Soos Jy that he released with Mack Rapapali and it has been listened by more than two million people across the world.
My Vrou and Die Beste Deel, released in 2020, were also very well received and charted on several radio stations.
Christiaan has been involved in the music industry for around two decades and released his first album in 2008 at the age of nineteen.
Some of his career highlights include winning Huisgenoot Tempo and Ghoema Awards, producing a children’s album with Leon Jonkman; progressing to the final rounds of Idols SA in 2006; opening for Smokie in 2012; performing at Huisgenoot Skouspel in 2007 as well as multiple casino performances in Gauteng.
To ensure that he stays relevant and on track with the latest music trends, the musician travels often. A place that has become like a second home to him is Nashville and he plans on returning as soon as possible.
As soon as lockdown is lifted, he also plans on touring the country and sharing new music with his fans.
This talented singer wants to speak to people’s hearts and give them hope and with STOF he definitely achieves this goal.
