“Sometimes you have to leave your old baggage behind to be able to reach new chapters in your life,” says Gerduan Kemp about the meaning behind his latest single, LANGPAD NA MÔRE, which he co-wrote with ADAM’s Hugo Ludik and Rubber Duc’s Nick Jordaan.
This delightful Afrikaans pop-rock track was inspired by the versatile Bloemfontein musician’s difficult decision to leave his hometown behind for a new and exciting future in Pretoria.
“I put a lot of emotion into my songs. This one is very close to my heart because it reflects what I was feeling when I had to leave my hometown behind for the city. Furthermore, I also want to use the song to encourage listeners not to let big opportunities slip through their fingers just because it requires some tough choices,” he explains. “The song has beautiful lyrics and a catchy melody which will appeal to all ages.”
LANGPAD NA MÔRE is the second single off his debut album, Sesde Sintuig, which will be released on 8 October 2021 and according to those in the music industry who already heard it, it’s going to be something that will satisfy even the most discerning ear. “All of the songs were inspired by things that happened in my life. It is about my story so far and how it has shaped me and brought me to where I am today,” Gerduan shares. “I co-wrote nine of the ten songs and had the privilege of working with talented songwriters such as Hugo Ludik, Nick Jordaan, Riaan Benadé, Petrus van Wyk, Johan Oberholzer and Emil Robert. The album took a long time to record, and I am excited to share it with the public.”
The title track of the album was released last year. It was an instant hit and topped the charts of several radio stations, while the music video has already had more than 26 000 views on YouTube.
“The feedback on my previous single was incredibly good. The song can still be heard on various radio stations across the country and people often tell me that it is their favourite dance track,” he shares about this highlight in his career.
Gerduan, who has his own photography and videography business – GK Kreativ Productions – when he is not on stage, has been singing since he was a little boy and has been taking guitar lessons since he was eight. He only decided to pursue a career in music during his final year at university where he was busy completing his degree in Communications and Journalism. Since then, he has shared the stage with several big names and performed at numerous festivals and functions across the country.
The artist wants his music to touch people’s hearts and with LANGPAD NA MÔRE he not only exceeds this goal, but also manages to make fans look forward to what he has planned for the future.
