Small Steps – Big Impact

It’s no secret that we’re facing an unprecedented climate crisis, but not all hope is lost. In fact, experts agree that even the smallest consistent actions can make a big difference. Bongani Mnisi, Board Chairperson of the Human Resources and Remuneration Committee of the Breede-Gouritz Catchment Management Agency, says that this year, Earth Day is the perfect opportunity to recommit ourselves to protecting our precious natural environment.

Bongani who is a renowned South African conservationist has been passionate about the environment his whole life. Having grown up in the breath-taking province of Mpumalanga, nature has always been close to his heart. He studied Nature Conservation, and eventually obtained a Masters in Botany. Today he works in the Mother City and is driven to create environmental spaces that encourage everyone in the community to enjoy them. “Earth Day highlights that a good quality of life is underpinned by a healthy environment,” he says. “Without it, our lives as we know it would cease to exist.”

Bongani encourages everyone to do their part on Earth Day, and beyond, with small actions that can have a big impact. “Whether it’s planting a tree or cultivating a vegetable garden or cycling to work – every bit counts.”

Among the many changes Bongani has made in his life, he’s also committed to being a conscious consumer by wearing workwear that is as hardworking as it is kind to the environment, for this reason, he chooses Sweet-Orr. The brand’s workwear is made from 100% cotton, which is tough, hypoallergenic, and completely biodegradable.

Bongani forms part of Sweet-Orr’s #LoveWhatYouDo campaign which is a salute to the hardworking trailblazers, creative thinkers, and hard workers in every field who all share one common trait: they love what they do. “As one of the oldest global protective wear brands,” says Sweet-Orr Executive Director Denver Berman-Jacob, “We felt it was important to celebrate the wearers of our garments and tell their stories, sharing a positive message – do what you love, love what you do”.
