XXC LEGACY’s debut EP End of Days showcasing of female independence

Johannesburg, 10 June 2022 –  Trailblazing South African hip-hop talent XXC Legacy is setting local airways alight with the release of her debut ‘End of Days’, introducing exciting collaborations with some of music’s hottest names including Moozlie, Big Star Johnson, Re.Decay, Stilo Magolide, Jay Jody and more.

A creative, a lyricist, a performer, a visionary. These are some of the titles that can be attributed to National School of the Arts graduate Courtney Mthethwa aka XXC Legacy. 22 year old hailing from Jozi is one independent to watch and Berlin-based label Paradise Sound System is behind her all the way.

With this EP, ‘End Of Days’ the team at Paradise Sound System saw an opportunity to further amplify the narrative and secured themselves a National Sportswear campaign due to launch end of June, 22nd. For which XXC Legacy created a line inspired by her tenacity and story of independence.

Brimming with catchy hooks, edgy beats, and her trademark smooth, quick-spoken rap style, her new EP blends hip-hop and rap with modern electronic touches while seamlessly fusing 90s sound influences.

The lead single off the EP titled ‘On the Low’ is a track that balances the strong, stable flow of Jay Jody with the calm confidence of XXC Legacy. The lyrics are a display of cool collectedness, having no insecurities about one’s value. Jay Jody’s feature on this track displays his status as a seasoned, household name in the hip hop scene. This is a track immersed in the certainty of how both XXC Legacy and Jay Jody are simply the best at what they do.

Another  anticipated single, “When you know” produced by Re-Decay is inspired by her new partnership with local athleisure brand, in which she explores her journey as a young black woman working to make it in the local music industry, overcoming many obstacles. With a verse featuring Djenga, famous for his work with local duo Locnville, the song speaks about culture, independence, and shares an inspiring message about the importance of taking risks.

“It has a very old-school beat which references influences such as Wu-Tang and the theme song from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, but I also wanted to share my story and values, and to encourage others to take that risk, follow your dreams and set your own trends,” expresses XXC Legacy.
