It is the fantasy series about a battle to reign over Westeros that has taken the world by storm, and it seems the Royals may be fans too.

Tourists watching the traditional Changing of the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace in London were treated to a rather familiar song played by the Queen’s Guard – the Game of Thrones theme tune.

A video posted online over the weekend shows the soldiers in their traditional attire of red jacket and bearskin cap playing the popular tune from the US series as their comrades march out into the forecourt outside the palace.

The Queen was recently in Northern Ireland, where much of the HBO series is filmed, and politely declined an offer to sit on The Iron Throne of Westeros.

But if the Changing of the Guard is anything to go by, perhaps she is a fan after all.

The stirring rendition included military horns and drums, and was so convincing it elicited applause from the audience gathered outside the gates.

The Queen chose to give the Iron Throne a wide berth during a visit to the HBO set and met Game of Thrones cast, among them Kit Harrington and Lena Headey.

The film was only posted last week but has already been viewed online more than a million times.
Delighted viewers posted comments under the YouTube clip, branding the interpretation of the soundtrack ‘epic’.
Thomas Zulli said: ‘Epic rendition of an epic theme to an epic show.’
And Tyronne Clark added: ‘Queen’s Guard Performs Game of Thrones theme Like A Boss!’

It’s not the first cover of the Game of Thrones opening song.

This year alone it’s been reinterpreted as a New Orleans-style jazz arrangement, a cheesy `80s synth romp, and a one-woman choral work.

The original track is composed by Grammy-nominated German composer Ramin Djawadi, who also wrote music for Iron Man, Clash of the Titans.
