Jonathan Butler live in concert

Must read

South African singer-jazz guitarist and Grammy-nominee, Jonathan Butler is currently on a whirlwind trip to South Africa, and he’s made sure to include a few shows on his visit home, which includes a dazzling performance on the 17th of March together with SA’s jazz maestro Ernie Smith at the Theatre of Marcellus at Emperors Palace.

Born in Cape Town, Butler left South Africa over 40 years ago and has since become a world-renowned artist. But despite his international success, Butler has always remained connected to his roots and his music and performances are infused with rhythms and sounds of his homeland.

‘Guitar Conversations’ is expected to be a memorable one, with the two guitar virtuosos serenading the night with the sounds of some of their most popular hits and other fan-favourites, with some surprises. Between the pair, they have both won multiple awards and performed internationally for world-wide audiences and are not only master guitarists and vocalist but have also been long-time friends.

Christmas Together

“…it’s been a long time. Johannesburg are you ready to come out? I’m home and I’m going to be taking you way back and bring you all the way to the now,” shared Butler, with Smith adding: “I am about to release my new album ‘Colours’ after 3 years of not doing a jazz album and am super excited to share some of it and especially excited to share the stage with my friend of over 20 years”.
