Telkom Netball League Celebrates a Remarkable Journey as It Ends on A High Note

The three-month long netball tournament had fans coming from all parts of South Africa to celebrate and witness the countries national netball talent. The thrilling netball event came to a celebratory end with the Gauteng Jaguars being crowned the champions of the 2023 Telkom Netball League and the Free State Crinums coming in a victorious second place with the final score being 59-51.

The events which took place at the semi-finals on Thursday evening paved the expectations for a thrilling finale for Division A and Division B to be held on Saturday, 1st of July. With the Free State Crinums and the Gauteng Jaguars team in division A fighting for their well-deserved qualifying position, they remained true to their reputation and both qualified for the finals. With their hard work, dedication, and eyes on the prize the two qualifying teams from Division B  are the Gauteng Fireballs and the Stings.

Saturday evening was an unforgettable occasion, as the Telkom Netball League reached its climax with two thrilling finale matches. The atmosphere in the arena was electric, with a sea of enthusiastic fans filling the stands. Their unwavering support and infectious energy added an extra dimension to the already intense competition, creating an atmosphere that will be remembered for years to come.

Sharing her thoughts on the impact that the Telkom Netball League has on the development of netball in South Africa, Masingita Mazibuko, CSB Brand & Marketing at Telkom, said “The Telkom Netball League provides a platform for South Africa’s finest netball talent to showcase their skills and passion for the sport. The Telkom Netball League also serves as an opportunity for our youth to be inspired by these athletes and to consider netball as a viable career path. Telkom firmly believes that sport can be a catalyst for positive social change and ultimately the development of a prosperous future for our country.”

The Telkom Netball League for this year served as a remarkable stage to showcase the undeniable talent possessed by all 15 participating teams. With the exciting addition of the Free State Sonoblomo and the Limpopo Lillies, the league expanded its reach and brought forth even greater competition.

We saw some exceptional performances from all the 15 teams that were part of this year’s tournament. The following ladies showed resilience and excellence during the duration of the tournament and were awarded TNL awards.

Division A

Player of the tournament: Khanyisa Chawane (Crinums)

Best shooter: Nichole Taljaard (Stings)

Best Center Court Player: Refiloe Nkentsa (Crinums)

Best defender: Jamie van Wyk (Jaguars)

Division B

Player of the tournament: Muhluri Hlatshwayo (Baobabs)

Best shooter: Marichelle Visagie (Baobabs)

Best Mid-Court: Amber Coraizin (Tornados)

Best defender: Cornelia Mupenda (Baobabs)
