SINGER-SONGWRITER, ALEX SOLOMON UNVEILS STUNNING VISUALISER FOR LATEST SINGLE “TYPICAL YOU”
Just a couple of weeks after the release of the single, “Typical You”, rising star, Alex Solomon has shared the official visualiser. Working in collaboration with Befok Films on this, Alex went to them with the concept that she had in mind – “I came up with the idea for the visualiser,” she shares. “I knew I wanted the theme to depict the emotional state of heartbreak, specifically, highlighting the isolation, darkness and vicious cycle of it all.”
Talking more about what it felt like to work on the visualiser, Alex shares that she was ‘caught in a daze’ throughout the whole shoot, but the energy in the room from all those involved turned it into an incredibly exciting experience as they worked to bring her vision to life. “It was both empowering and inspiring to work on this. It’s so invigorating to be in the process of bringing a concept to life, even though you still don’t know the final outcome, the electricity of the inspiration fuels you.”
A concept that focuses solely on Alex as she sings the words of her song, the pain and isolation of heartbreak are highlighted throughout. A rain machine was used as a visual way to highlight the ‘storms that can bombard and consume us’ during a period of complete and utter heartbreak. “It was an incredible experience to work with young creatives who are just as passionate and hungry to create,” Alex shares. “It was an amazing experience, but I will admit that executing a concept like – with a rain machine and all – was not the easiest, especially with it being winter,” Alex admits that working in the freezing theatre, especially on the scenes that required the rain machine was difficult. “I cried in between takes,” she admits. “But it was so worth it!
“Typical You” takes listeners on a soul-stirring journey through the artist’s personal experience of grappling with the aftermath of a broken relationship. With a unique blend of vulnerability and grit, Alex captures the raw pain of longing for someone who persistently lingers in their thoughts and memories. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of the daily battle to get through each day, only to be bombarded by thoughts of their former love interest. “Getting through my day is hard enough to do, then you pop into my head, like you do,” sings Alex, encapsulating the struggle many can relate to. From tears in the rain, sleepless nights, to troubled methods of coping, Alex bares her soul, leaving no emotion untouched. The song reaches its climax with a powerful juxtaposition of conflicting feelings. While she acknowledges the pain caused by their former love, there’s an admission that deep down, they still possess an underlying affection. “Even all the blood that you withdrew, my god my love, I couldn’t ever hate you,” confesses Solomon.
While ‘Typical You’ showcases the distinctive growth of her vocal prowess and poignant songwriting skills, this all-consuming passion for songwriting came early on for Alex at just 16 years old. On a mission to follow her dreams, she left her hometown of Plettenberg Bay and made her way to Cape Town, where she caught the attention of producer DJ Cosher, propelling her into the spotlight. Her debut on the KFM Top 40, featured on Cosher’s song, earning her praise from host Carl Wastie, who exclaimed, “Watch out for Alex Solomon, that’s a big, big name.”
Following her debut, Alex released her independent single ‘EX-GIRLFRIEND,’ which garnered widespread attention on radio, including charting at No. 2 on Australian radio station, Valley FM. With every subsequent release, Alex continued to make waves, consistently charting at No. 1 on Valley FM and achieving international playlisting on streaming platforms like Apple Music and Spotify.
The latest single is a testament to her talent and artistry and there is no stopping this homegrown talent. ‘Typical You’ is now available on all major streaming platforms, allowing listeners to embark on a journey of self-reflection and emotional catharsis through Alex Solomon’s evocative musical storytelling.
