The songs you select for your special wedding day create beautiful
moments that you know will stay in your heart and memory forever. Your
song choices are also a great way to express who you are as a couple,
says General Manager, Sean Granger, of Granny Mouse Country House &
Spa.
There’s a lot to think about when setting a playlist, but the bridal
entrance, walking down the aisle and the first dance as a married
couple are probably the most important song choices.
Choosing a theme or style of your wedding shapes your wedding, and
from there it’s a great place to start to figure out the kind of music
you want to have on your special day.
If you are planning an outdoor wedding, make sure everyone is on the
same page with sound ordinances, when the entertainment must stop, how
loud the entertainment can be, and how much power you will need.
If you are looking at DJ’s, make sure that you feel their music aligns
with your music taste, as you don’t want them going off playing songs
that are totally wrong for your personality. Do some reading up on
them, specifically their style of music, read reviews, watch their
promo videos, and if you are looking for live music whether it be
orchestral classic sounds or a band, check them out first to see if
they match.
Give the DJ a list that is clear and precise, indicating which songs
you want played, and when. Or, if you’re not too picky, provide a
“don’t play” list so that you’re not stuck having to hear any songs
you dislike.
If it’s a band, and these used to be popular in the 80s cult movies
and are making a comeback, there are a lot of things to check to
ensure there isn’t a disaster on your hands.
Have an audition and ask those key questions. How long will they play
for? What is the backup plan if there is an issue i.e. load shedding
or faulty instruments? Do you have “backup” equipment or instruments
if anything should occur?
Make sure all the specifics are documented in your contract. Again, do
the research. Don’t sign anything without first watching a live
performance on video or in person and pay attention to the quality of
the sound.
Granger adds that when it comes down to it, the options for choosing
your wedding music are limitless. Using your overall wedding style to
guide these choices whilst working closely with your planner will
ensure that the day sounds as seamless as it looks.
