“Water” made the South African artist the category’s first-ever winner.
South African singer Tyla won a Grammy in the category of Best African Music Performance.
Tyla has won the 2024 Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance with her song “Water.” This is the category’s inaugural year, and other nominees include Asake and Olamide (“Amapiano”), Ayra Starr (“Rush”), Burna Boy (“City Boys”), and Davido featuring Musa Keys (“Unavailable”).
The 2024 Grammy Awards will feature three new categories: Best African Music Performance, Best Alternative Jazz Album, and Best Pop Dance Recording. Kylie Minogue won the later award.
“Water” will appear on Tyla’s self-titled first album, which will be released on March 22.
