Sunset Sweatshop are back with their highly anticipated new single If I Got You – a vibrant track that is a true testament to the band’s signature feel-good sound and is destined to be the anthem of the summer. “When we think of summer, we think of good vibes,” the band shared. “That’s what we aim to create with our music – good vibes!”
This one is all about love, good vibes, and those special moments that remind you what really matters. The idea for the song came from a sweet moment between lead singer Ian and his daughter, Mila. While driving home one day, she started humming a melody that stuck with Ian. As soon as they got home, Ian asked her to hum it again, and inspiration struck. Together, they crafted what the band calls a “masterpiece,” sending a universal message that love conquers all and that material possessions pale in comparison to true connection.

With many years in the industry, the band have become a South African favorite. Their secret to success is an organic and spontaneous process. “We never know when or how inspiration will strike,” they said. “We just go with it, hoping a ‘leka’ tune comes out. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, but that’s the beauty of music. We don’t plan ahead – it keeps everything authentic.”
2024 has been a landmark year for Sunset Sweatshop, as they crossed borders into multiple African countries, making new friends and memories along the way. “We’ve shared the stage with incredible artists, and it’s crazy how music brings people together,” they reflected. Highlights include opening for Maroon 5 at Calabash 2024 and performing international shows, including opening for Mango Groove in Zimbabwe.
As the year wraps up, fans can expect more exciting performances, including a highly anticipated set at the Vic Falls New Year’s festival. The band are rounding out their year with ‘If I Got You’ and they’re looking forward to what the rest of the year and belong brings!
