Johannesburg, 12 December 2024 | Brand South Africa’s Play Your Part Ambassador and esteemed voice actor Chilu Lemba has added another milestone to his illustrious career by winning the Outstanding Performance – TV or Streaming – Best African Voice Over award at the 2024 Society of Voice Arts and Sciences (SOVAS) Voice Arts® Awards.

Held at the iconic Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday, December 8th, the ceremony celebrates global excellence in the voiceover industry and is widely regarded as the “Grammys, Emmys, or Oscars” of voice artistry.

With this latest triumph, Lemba becomes a three-time SOVAS Voice Arts® Award winner, more than any other African voice actor, solidifying his status as a pioneer in the field. Reflecting on his achievement, Lemba shared:

“This marks my third win in three years, yet the excitement and gratitude feel just as fresh as the very first time. It’s a privilege to represent African voices on this global platform and to be part of such an inspiring community of talent.”

The Voice Arts® Awards is uniquely designed to honour the community of performers and craft professionals who perform, direct, produce, cast, engineer, and publish media productions where voice acting is a central creative element of the work. The purpose of the Voice Arts® Awards is to provide a stage for international acknowledgment of the extraordinary skill and artistry that goes into voiceover acting and to hold up an evolving best-in-class standard of achievement to which the voiceover industry can continually aspire.

The awards are similar to the Oscars, Emmys, and Tonys, where the work is entered in various categories, judged and scored by a panel of industry experts, and where the top 5 scores in each category become nominees. A final round of judging determines the winner in each category.

Previous winners at the SOVAS Voice Arts® Awards include Viola Davis, Sigourney Weaver, Jonah Hill, Cate Blanchett, Kit Harrington, Kristin Wiig and the late James Earl Jones.

Lemba’s latest accolade not only highlights his extraordinary talent but also his commitment to amplifying African voices on a global stage. As a proud ambassador for Brand South Africa and a trailblazer in the entertainment industry, Lemba’s success is an inspiration for aspiring creatives across the continent.
