“Glammy always knows best”: Lynn and Kairo Forbes explore the magic of Istanbul together
Our favourite grandmother-granddaughter duo, Glammy Lynn and Kairo Forbes, known for their close bond and love for travel, have once again packed their bags and jetted off overseas. This time, they’re exploring the rich cultural tapestry of Istanbul in Türkiye. Their trip is filled with fun, family traditions, and new experiences as they dive into the heart of the city’s history, food, and unique blend of East and West.
As they share glimpses of their journey across Instagram, it’s clear that every trip with Glammy is an adventure Kairo cherishes. Whether it’s planning their next sightseeing stop or enjoying in-flight games, Kairo and Glammy’s travels are always filled with laughter and learning. “We always have fun together,” says Kairo, reflecting on the many trips they’ve taken. From movies to music, they keep themselves entertained even on long flights, with Glammy introducing Kairo to her favourite old-school hits while also curating their own Forbes Fun Playlist.
Kairo, what’s the best part about travelling with Glammy?
Kairo: The best part about travelling with Glammy is that we have fun! She makes every trip an adventure, and we get to explore new places together. Glammy always plans cool things for us to do.
Why have you chosen to explore Istanbul?
Kairo: Because Glammy said we should go and experience new things and make new memories.
She always knows what’s best and even when I wouldn’t have chosen to go somewhere myself, I always end up enjoying it with Glammy.
For our Istanbul trip, Glammy is creating a Cultural, History and Food Passport for us to stamp everything we experience! We have watched many videos about Istanbul on YouTube and can’t wait to experience everything myself and see how many things I will tick off my list!
Glammy: My son Kiernan always used to video call me whenever he was in Istanbul. He loved the city and wanted to take us there to experience it with him. I want to visit all the places he mentioned and experience them with Kairo. Istanbul has such a rich history and culture, blending the old with the new. I wanted Kairo to experience its vibrant energy, from the architecture to the food and the people. It’s a place full of stories and adventures, and I think it’s a great way for her to see how different parts of the world come together.
Long flights can be challenging, how do you both keep busy during the journey?
Kairo: I like to play games on my iPad, read, and sometimes draw. Glammy and I also watch movies or talk about what we’re going to do when we land.
Do you have a favourite playlist or music you listen to when you travel?
Glammy: We enjoy our shared Fun Forbes Playlist; music that’s a mix of old classics and modern hits. It’s always fun to introduce Kairo to songs I love from the 80’s or 90’s. The playlist also has family favourites from when Kairo’s dad and uncle Steffan were growing up and Kairo has added the latest songs she currently enjoys.
Do you both enjoy watching movies or series together while flying? If so, what’s on your must-watch list?
Kairo: Yes! We love watching movies or fun family films and series. The latest ones we are have enjoying together are The Babysitters Club, Geek Girl, Family Reunion, Dog Gone and Decendents. I can’t wait to catch up on my shows and discover new ones on the in-flight entertainment! Glammy says they have so many cool shows and movies, including great options for kids.
How do you stay comfortable and relaxed during long flights?
Kairo: I bring my Squishmallow and I like to wear comfy clothes and shoes.
Glammy: Comfort is key! We both wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and I make sure we move around during the flight to stay relaxed. Having a neck pillow (Squishmallow) and stretching helps a lot too.
What’s one in-flight activity that you always look forward to doing together?
Kairo: Eating together is one of our favourite travel activities and then watching movies together or playing games. We also enjoy doing travel quizzes about the airline we are using or our destination.
After a long flight, what’s the first thing you do to kick off your adventure once you land?
Kairo: Try the local sweets first! I like to explore the new place and see what’s around us.
What’s your favourite airline & why?
Glammy: Definitely Turkish Airlines, Kiernan was always a fan of the airline, their top class service and hospitality is unmatched. Their Business Class lounge & activities for both adults and kids are incredible and for South Africans we can so quickly get an e-visa, it took us less than 5 minutes to generate. Where possible, we would love to fly with Turkish Airlines for our future travels! I’m also excited about the Turkish Airlines Kids Club for Kairo. It’s designed especially for kids, with fun cartoons, tasty menus, and eco-friendly toys that turn the flight into a fun adventure for kids as they discover the world through variety of reading materials. It’s such a thoughtful addition that makes traveling as a family even more enjoyable!
