St Peter’s College announces outstanding matric results for the class of 2024

14 January 2025: St Peter’s College 2024 matric class achieved outstanding results, celebrating a phenomenal 100% pass rate, a record number of subject distinctions – 325 in total (an average of 2.32 per learner) with 98% of candidates celebrating Bachelor Degree passes (137 in total). Six learners achieved 8 distinctions, three learners received 7 distinctions each, six learners secured 6 distinctions while 13 learners obtained 5 distinctions each. The matric class as a whole were awarded 294 “B” symbols in total, while 2% of candidates received diploma passes.

“This year, we’re delighted to have two Dux scholars tied with the same marks and 8 distinctions each, as well as two additional top-performing students (#3 and #4) tied with identical marks and 8 distinctions each. These 4 learners were especially mentioned on the IEB outstanding achievement list, a well-deserved accomplishment for them on its own”, notes Brian Armitage, St Peter’s College Acting Headmaster.

“Having received 8 distinctions, I’m so excited to study Actuarial Science at Wits University. Congratulations to the Class of 2024; we did it. The hard work paid off,” remarked Mpho Moyo, Head of School and Dux Scholar.

“I’m quite happy with my results – 8 distinctions and 100% in both Mathematics and French. Thanks to St Peter’s College for creating the environment that allowed me to achieve these results. I’m looking forward to starting my journey studying Computer Science,” Heinrich Klopper, Dux Scholar, commented.

Comparatively, the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) announced a stellar 98.47% pass rate for the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations—the highest recorded IEB pass rate in the past five years.

Of the 16,304 learners from independent schools in the country who sat for the exams, 89.37% achieved university entry qualifications, surpassing last year’s 88.59%. In fact, the 2024 pass rate reveals a slight increase from last year’s 98.46%.

Comparatively, the national matric pass rates have shown an upward trajectory over the last decade, with the 2023 national pass rate reaching 82.9%, up from 80.1% in 2022.
