A suspect linked to multiple high-value thefts was arrested at Jackal Creek Estate on the evening of Tuesday, 25 February, thanks to effective internal information sharing and the swift action of an alert Fidelity site manager.
The individual, who had previously targeted the Longmeadow complex in Lonehill over the weekend, was identified through internal security networks.
Charnel Hattingh, Group head of marketing & communications at Fidelity Services Group says, “ His modus operandi involved booking into AirBnB properties within residential estates, allowing him unrestricted access to the premises. Once inside, he would arrange a small transport truck and systematically remove household appliances, including stoves, fridges, and televisions.”
Upon recognising the suspect at Jackal Creek, the site manager initiated discreet surveillance of the unit. The suspect was apprehended as soon as he attempted to arrange transport for the stolen property.
The suspect is currently being detained at Honeydew SAPS and will be linked to the Lonehill case, along with several other similar incidents under investigation.
SAPS’ Provincial Task Team, activated through E2, has taken over the interrogation, as they suspect the individual is part of a larger syndicate. More arrests are expected as the investigation unfolds.
“This is a significant breakthrough, made possible by strong collaboration and vigilance,” said Hattingh . “We commend the Lonehill and Estates teams for their dedication to ensuring the safety and security of our communities.
Fidelity remains committed to proactive security measures and will continue working closely with law enforcement to curb criminal activity.
