(Johannesburg, 28 February) – Renowned South African singer-songwriter Ross Learmonth has dropped his latest single, “Opposites,” – out now on all major digital platforms. Ross continues to make his mark in his dynamic solo career, doing what he does best – making great music, and this new song is no different. Opposites is as playful as it is heartfelt. “The song was loosely inspired by my parents’ relationship and my own experiences in love and life,” Ross explains. “It’s not always the case, but occasionally, opposites attract and bring out the best… and worst in each other.” With its infectious vibe and catchy hooks, the single invites listeners to embrace the idea that sometimes, someone can be perfect for you in all the opposite ways you might have imagined.

The creative process behind “Opposites” was as spontaneous as it was inspiring. “I often talk about songs floating around the room, and if you’re paying enough attention, you can capture it,” Ross shares. “I feel like that was very much this song—it was in the room, and it wanted to be written. The lyrics came together quite quickly, and I’m so grateful that Mark Beiling, my engineer, was there to catch it.” The track was crafted with the same winning team behind his recent Top 40 successes, Honey and Because of You. Rusti Rossouw and Tristan Carmichael, based in the UK—worked remotely to ensure every note resonated with authenticity.
Reflecting on his solo journey since 2019, Ross notes, “It’s been a really exciting but daunting experience. I spent most of my career building up a band’s name, and transitioning to ‘Ross from Prime Circle’ wasn’t easy. But now, with an incredible team around me, I can see the brand’s growth, and it’s really exciting.”
Opposites is just the latest chapter in an already impressive 2025. After electrifying performances at Kirstenbosch Gardens alongside Mafikizolo and a recent showcase at RMB Starlight Classics, Ross is gearing up to open for The Goo Goo Dolls in Gauteng on their South African tour. “I am SO excited for this show,” he enthuses, recalling his honor of performing with the band at a 46664 concert. “I can’t wait to take the audience on a journey—from my Prime Circle days to 2025—and especially to perform ‘Opposites’ live.”
Looking ahead, Ross is busy crafting his second studio album, which is anticipated to be released later this year or early next year. With another single slated for May—a moodier contrast to the infectious optimism of “Opposites”—Ross is set to continue captivating audiences.
