Johannesburg, April 2025 – Steenberg, one of South Africa’s most celebrated wine estates, has revealed a bold new visual identity for its flagship wines, setting a new standard in design and craftsmanship. Hosted at the prestigious San Deck at Sandton Sun & Towers, the exclusive event, titled “Steenberg Skyline & Vine”, took place on 10 April 2025 and welcomed an elite guest list of wine connoisseurs, media, and influencers for a night of elegance, innovation, and immersive storytelling.

Steenberg’s striking new labels represent a seamless blend of history and elegance, paying homage to the estate’s legacy while embracing a future-forward aesthetic. This evolution is a natural progression for Steenberg as it balances its rich heritage with its role as a leader in South African fine wine.
“The new flagship wine labels embody Steenberg’s commitment to premium quality and innovation,” says Carryn Wiltshire, Steenberg Wines Marketing Manager. “They are a visual and tactile representation of the elegance and craftsmanship that define our wines, ensuring they remain as relevant and aspirational as they are exceptional in the glass.”
Why This Rebrand Matters
Steenberg has long been synonymous with premium, terroir-driven wines crafted with meticulous attention to
detail. Established in 1682 by Catharina Ras, the Cape’s first female landowner, Steenberg has always been a place of resilience, vision, and excellence. Its dedication to craftsmanship and attention to detail traces back to its visionary founder whose pioneering spirit remains at the heart of Steenberg today. From its cool-climate vineyards to its renowned hospitality offerings, you will find the ‘Steenberg Touch’ everywhere – not just in what we do, but in how we do it.
“Catharina was a trailblazer—an innovator ahead of her time—and her influence is woven into every aspect of Steenberg,” explains Wiltshire. “She transformed a wild landscape into a sanctuary, and today, we continue to honour her legacy by crafting wines that reflect the distinctive Constantia terroir and the timeless values of quality and precision.”
Steenberg’s unique home ground advantage lies in its location within South Africa’s oldest wine-producing region, where cool maritime breezes and ancient soils create the perfect conditions for Sauvignon Blanc and fine red blends. The new flagship labels celebrate this sense of place with a sophisticated, modern design that highlights Steenberg’s unwavering commitment to excellence.
The Rooftop Reveal: A Night of Wine, Design, and Innovation
The launch event at San Deck at Sandton Sun & Towers was a high-energy showcase of Steenberg’s evolution. Guests were welcomed with a visual immersion tunnel. LED projections transported them to the heart of Steenberg Wine Farm, capturing the beauty of its cool-climate vineyards and historic werf.
A ballet performance by a dancer embodying the Black Swan—a tribute to Steenberg’s flagship Sauvignon Blanc—set the tone for the evening. Throughout the night, a live band and DJ provided an elegant yet vibrant atmosphere, while large-scale digital projections onto the surrounding cityscape reinforced Steenberg’s modern and forward-thinking approach.
Attendees had the exclusive opportunity to taste the newly labelled Black Swan Sauvignon Blanc 2024 and the Catharina Red Blend 2021. The Black Swan, a reflection of the estate’s mastery of Sauvignon Blanc, showcased its fresh minerality and crisp acidity. The Catharina Red Blend’s structured elegance and depth paid homage to its pioneering namesake.
“The event was designed to reflect the sophistication, energy, and timeless appeal of Steenberg’s new identity,” says Wiltshire. “Every detail, from the immersive entrance experience to the artistic performances, was curated to tell the story of our evolution as a brand.”
What the New Labels Represent
The updated Black Swan Sauvignon Blanc and Catharina Red Blend labels feature a muted, nude-toned elegance that reflects Steenberg’s luxury positioning. The Black Swan’s dark green and Catharina’s deep purple hues were selected from Steenberg’s new corporate identity, representing the purity and richness of the wines.
The labels feature a relief image of Steenberg’s historic wine cellar, incorporating Catharina Ras and the farm’s swans, a nod to the estate’s heritage and deep connection to its land. Embossing adds a tactile dimension, reinforcing the premium craftsmanship behind each bottle.
“Our new labels are a statement of refinement, depth, and modern sophistication,” says Wiltshire. “They’re designed to stand out on shelves and in cellars, resonating with established collectors and a new generation of luxury wine consumers.”
Strengthening Steenberg’s Legacy
The rebrand is more than a visual update—it signals Steenberg’s ongoing evolution as a leading name in high-end South African wine. The estate remains dedicated to mastery of Sauvignon Blanc, with Black Swan as a benchmark for South African cool-climate white wines. At the same time, Catharina Red Blend continues to be a tribute to its pioneering namesake.
By aligning with global trends in delicate wine branding, Steenberg ensures its presence remains bold, aspirational, and deeply rooted in authenticity.
A New Era for Steenberg’s Flagship Wines
For those who missed the grand unveiling, Steenberg’s newly designed flagship wines will be available from April 2025 at select retailers, in Steenberg’s tasting room, and via the estate’s online store. The new vintage of Black Swan Sauvignon Blanc (2024) will debut in this refreshed look, while Catharina Red Blend (2021) retains its vintage but now carries a striking new design.
“This new design is a celebration of that philosophy, capturing the heart of our brand in a way that feels fresh, sophisticated, and unmistakably Steenberg,” concludes Wiltshire.”
