Prove to us that you are hot and spicy!If you are, then, if you have what it takes and you believe you cook the best curry in Durban, well then you need to enter Springfield Retail Centre’s Curry Cook, before Monday, March 25 at 4pm.

A spicy spoonful for the curry cook off at Springfield Retail Centre

This hot and spicy competition is open to amateur home cooks from the age of 18 years, where 9 contestants will be selected to make one curry dish from 3 of our categories, mutton, chicken, seafood (without rice or bread) for the top spot. Remember, the competition is not open to professionals working in the culinary industry.

To enter, simply create an original recipe from one of the 3 food categories and complete the online entry form and upload your original recipe via the Springfield Retail Centre website.

All entrants should select their preferred category, title their dish (i.e: Madras Mutton/ Cheeky Chicken; etc) as well as create a team name (i.e: The Incredibles, Red Hot Chilli Preppers; The Spice Girls; etc).

The entries will then be judged and only 3 entrants per category will be selected to compete on Saturday, April 6th at Springfield Retail Centre.

Catch our local celebrity judges: Ramola Makan from Elba/Totai Appliances and renowned cook book author; the Executive Chef from the Endless Horizons Group, Gordon Manuel;  Frank Chemaly – Independent Media food critic and journalist and lastly, Guy Gorrie, the Executive Chef from The Royal Palm Hotel. Lastly, entertaining the crowds is one of Durban’s top comedic stand-up artist, Masood Boomgaard who will be your host during the cook–off!

All 9 successful finalists will then go head to head, to prepare their dish, within the allocated time period, with the help of one assistant of their choice, and with ingredients supplied by the Food Lovers Market from Springfield Retail Centre.

Prizes up for grabs in each category include R5000 in cash for 1st place, as well as a 2 plate gas stove sponsored by Totai, our 2nd place winner will receive R2000 and R1000 will go to the team that comes in 3rd place.
