AB chats with International model Daniel Joao

Must read

Daniel Joao premiered on our screens with vigor in 2014, after winning Heat Magazines’ Man Watch Competition and has since remained a favorite and well sought after talent locally and internationally.

The accomplished Hip – Hop artist, a dancer, actor and officially titled sexiest man in mzansi, hails from Angola. We have seen him grace the covers of local and international magazines, ramps and screens by virtue of his multifaceted dexterity.

He recently returned on tele as the enticing João Pedro on one of the country’s popular series “The River” aired on 1Magic. Without hesitation, I had to request that he tells us a bit about this magnificent debut.

Tell readers about yourself.

I am a very simple man, 3 words to describe me is fun, optimistic and proactive.

What is your favorite childhood memory?

I’m just another downtown boy who grew up in the rural area – growing up we were forced to create our own toys with recyclable material found around our neighborhood because our parents could not afford to buy us toys.

Thinking about it today – having created those toys brings me joy, as a result, I find myself always gravitating towards being creative in every sphere of my life due to having to apply myself resourcefully whilst growing up.

Why did you decide to choose modeling as a career?

I think there is more money circulating in the Fashion industry not necessarily in South Africa however, the economy is growing and technologically it is evolving.

More people want to be heard and seen and the fashion industry has those components that allow you to make a public statement by the way you dress and who you associate yourself with, so its a very seasonal career choice.

What skills are necessary for you to be successful in this industry?

Firstly you need to know who you are where you come from and where you are going. Secondly, I’ve learned that you need confidence, strong communication skills, ability to work well independently and within a team. You will also need management skills, problem-solving skills, an ability to set your priorities in order and to meet set deadlines.

We saw your debut on a popular series called “The River‘ on SA tele. Please share with readers about this journey.

It was an amazing journey with lessons and wonderful experiences. I was literally acting alongside some of the biggest names and legends in the acting industry. Fortunately for me, I was given a role that allowed me to have fun and be creative at the same time. I think the best I can take out of this experience, is that – it enabled me to improve on my acting skills and I am now focusing on attaining new roles and exploring this amazing craft.

What advice do you have for anyone that wants to do what you do?

Always be yourself and remember that “those who conform don’t transform“. Be the best version of yourself no matter the cost. Empower yourself, find out what it is that you love to do, convert that into a business and then change the world and make it a better place.
