The two of the biggest Hollywood stars of Nigerian descent, Chiwetel Ejiofor and David Oyelowo are looking to use their considerable status and privilege to help raise funds for vulnerable women and children especially in Nigeria.

Both actors are set to headline GEANCO’s annual Hollywood fundraising gala next month. GEANCO, which was behind the David Oyelowo Leadership Scholarship For Girls initiative, is an LA-based NGO that seeks to save and transform lives in Africa.

Speaking about Oyelowo and Ejiofor’s involvement, GEANCO’S co-founder, Afam Onyema said:

“David and Chiwetel are passionate supporters who are deeply involved with our work in Nigeria. I’m honored to have them headline this important event.”

The actors will engage in a keynote conversation about philanthropy in Africa, and will be joined by Ejiofor’s Doctor Strange co-star, Benedict Cumberbatch, who is the honorary gala chair; as well as special guests, Sam Adegoke (Dynasty), Dayo Okeniyi (Hunger Games) and Jidenna.

Proceeds from the event will be used to financially support GEANCO’s medical missions, which provide free joint replacements and minimally invasive surgeries to less-privileged Nigerians.

GEANCO leads special surgical missions and runs maternal and infant health programs in Nigeria.

It also donates critical supplies to schools in Nigeria while providing life-changing scholarships to young female victims of terrorism and gender inequality.

This year’s Hollywood fundraiser will be held at Pacific Design Center, West Hollywood on the 6th of October.
