The docuseries aims to inspire viewers by showcasing the relentless pursuit of excellence and the personal sacrifices these athletes make to achieve their dreams. These are the stars who have put in the hours and training to make their mark on the world stage.

This episode spotlights a 26-year-old track and field athlete specialising in javelin throw. Jo-Ané Van Dyk is an Olympian, All-African Games winner, and African champion and her journey is one of resilience and determination, showcasing her unwavering commitment to excel in her sport.

Jo-Ane’s journey in athletics began in her early school years when coaches quickly recognised her talent for javelin. She honed her skills through rigorous training her breakthrough came when she joined a specialised training program that focused on maximising her potential in javelin throw, under the guidance of renowned coaches where she studied Bsc Dietetics and later graduated. Van Dyk is a registered dietitian and completing her diploma in coaching science at North-West University.

Her career reached a new pinnacle when she set her personal best at the prestigious Hylo Javelin Meeting in Offenburg, Germany. This achievement of 63.53m throw not only highlighted her technical skill and physical prowess but also her ability to perform under pressure in international competitions. This milestone served as a catalyst for her selection to the South African Olympic team, marking a significant chapter in her athletic career.

“Going into these Olympics, I don’t want to just be a participant,” Jo-Ané says. “A lot has changed since the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, including my abilities. Bagging the gold doesn’t necessarily mean getting a medal. For me, it’s about doing my very best – that’s the win. And if I’m capable of doing that, I’m sure the medals will follow.”
