A hip hop group from Mpumalanga, calling themselves TMC, reached out to us to explain that they recorded and released a song early last year with the help of producer Solead Beats.

They claim AKA’s producers then stole the song’s instrumental for the rapper’s single, Sim Dope. “The band did a song called Born Great and uploaded the song to the Internet around March last year. After that we heard the song Sim Dope and saw that it was uploaded around July,” says Kholofelo Sekatane, a former member of the group who is still a friend of the bands.

He told The Juice that the sound is identical. “The instrumentals, especially when the song starts, are the same as on Sim Dope,” he adds. Kholofelo says the band has tried to reach out to AKA for some kind of explanation but he has just ignored them. Although the group has not decided on legal action as yet, Kholofelo says that they simply want recognition for what is theirs.

The Juice has repeatedly reached out to AKA for comment, but the musician has yet to reply.
