Love is undoubtedly one of the strongest emotions we can experience as humans. But it’s also the one that often takes our feelings on a rollercoaster ride.

Singer-songwriter, Sharine Barnard, has carved out a niche for herself in the realm of love and the emotions it evokes.
YOU’RE THE LIAR is the latest single from her pen and the second-to-last track on her upcoming debut album, Words Fail Me (Part 1), which is set to be released later this year. The songs on her album cover all the different stages of loving and being in love, with her latest pop song representing the “angry phase”.
“This track is slightly tongue-in-cheek, but it hints at the fact that an apology sometimes comes too late, especially when a little white lie was involved,” Barnard explains. “But where love is concerned, one always somehow gets over the anger and forgives quickly.”
She explains that the song, produced by 2Tone Records’s André de Jager, ties in with My Read-Between-The-Lines, which is about the unpredictability of love and how one can be unexpectedly caught off guard by it.
“It starts with head-in-the-clouds and progresses in YOU’RE THE LIAR to don’t-even-look-at-me anger,” she explains. “Both songs represent an aspect of being in love and tell the story that goes with it.”
The talented musician’s previous work has been well-received by radio stations and listeners, and she believes they will also connect with YOU’RE THE LIAR. “In addition to the catchy beat, I think many people will identify with the lyrics because who hasn’t been mad at a loved one? So mad that you feel they shouldn’t even look in your direction…”
Sharine, who grew up in Jan Kempdorp, has always loved music but only decided to pursue her musical dreams during lockdown. Her other great loves are animals and health – this versatile woman owns Bagamoya Wildlife Estate, which provides a safe haven for lions, monkeys, and even a tiger, as well as Ozone Clinic, an ozone therapy clinic that helps clients with health, sports performance, and sports recovery. She is also an avid athlete and has participated in various triathlon and duathlon championships.
Besides the launch of her debut album later this year, Sharine is looking forward to the release of her second Afrikaans single, Jy is my Babes.
Although YOU’RE THE LIAR addresses a less popular aspect of being in love, it conveys the message in an upbeat manner that people will undoubtedly relate to.
