Aquasky, South Africa’s leading provider of sustainable hydration solutions, proudly announces its role as the official water sponsor for the 2025 Cape Epic, one of the world’s premier mountain biking events. This groundbreaking collaboration sets a new benchmark for sustainability in sports by focusing on reducing environmental impact while supporting the local economy.

As part of this initiative, Aquasky will introduce innovative, eco-conscious hydration stations at key points throughout the event. Instead of traditional plastic bottles, riders and spectators will have access to mobile bar units dispensing chilled still and sparkling water on tap, complemented by reusable cups that will be sanitized and reused. This approach is expected to eliminate the need for 60,000 plastic bottles, making a significant stride towards more sustainable large-scale events.
Aquasky’s dedication to sustainability is deeply rooted in its origins in the Western Cape, where the company pioneered South Africa’s first Atmospheric Water Generating (AWG) plant in 2017. By capturing water directly from the atmosphere, Aquasky offers an innovative solution that reduces reliance on scarce water resources, a critical advantage in drought-prone regions of South Africa.

“We are thrilled to bring our vision of sustainable hydration to an event as iconic as the Cape Epic,” said Brendan Williamson, Managing Director at Aquasky. “This partnership not only demonstrates our commitment to innovative, eco-friendly solutions but also showcases the potential of South African ingenuity to address global challenges.”
The Cape Epic, set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Western Cape, generates significant economic benefits for the region, supporting local businesses, tourism, and hospitality. By partnering with this internationally acclaimed event, Aquasky reaffirms its commitment to bolstering the South African economy while leading the charge in sustainability. This initiative also drives job creation, with local teams employed to manage hydration stations, reusable cup cleaning, and logistics.
In a first for events of this scale in South Africa, the 2025 Cape Epic will eliminate single-use plastic bottles for hydration entirely. This achievement cements the event’s reputation as a global leader in innovation and sustainability while positioning Aquasky as a trailblazer in environmentally responsible solutions.
