The group ARIOSE is back with a brand new single after they achieved great success with their very first single as a trio, BLY JY HIERat the end of last year.
“It was fun chatting to radio presenters, sharing our music and to hear the feedback from their listeners about our creation,” says Renier.
JY, written by Xander Filmalter, is an honest love letter dedicated to the one person you could never connect with and eventually let slip through your fingers. It’s about the struggle when anything and everything you say goes wrong.
“it’s about the emotions you need to embrace and the journey to accept the fact that the person you love with your heart and soul, cannot accept or return the same feelings. Depending on the listener’s current chapter in their life, some people may immediately identify with the lyrics while others may only in future and some never,” says Xander.
The contemporary track tells the story of a widespread situation that most people probably had to endure.
“Everyone had a crush on someone that never took notice of them,” explains Xander.
The Afrikaans group consist of Xander Filmalter, Renier Henning and Heidi Henning – a passion project that started in October 2020 to produce high quality music. The group’s name, ARIOSE, means “a melody”.
“Ariose’s goal is to produce quality Afrikaans music. Our music is written and based on acoustic guitar. During production other instruments are added such as electrical guitar or piano. The acoustic guitar remains our focus instrument to produce our music,” says Renier.
The music video for the single is produced by Xander and Renier, as with their previous video.
“Sometimes one feels as if you’ve been hit by a truck, as if you’re stuck in an emotional war just to get your mind straight. In some parts we’ve tried to portray loneliness and feeling helpless,” explains Xander.
“In some parts of the video he is dressed neatly and in some parts defeated. Love has the ability to some days get the better of you and it’s not always going to be easy. We wanted to portray this with Xander’s look. I think the message is that you shouldn’t pressure yourself too much, rather stay positive and believe that your situation will change for the better, even though it doesn’t look like it,” says Renier.
