15-year-old artist Rodman Edwards unveiled a proposed sculpture titled “Fat Albert Cries for Dr. Huxtable,” at the Cory Allen Contemporary Art Gallery in St. Pete on Friday evening.
Edwards, wants to hand-sculpt the bronzed image of a nude Cosby to bring awareness to recent sexual assault allegations against the comedian.
The figures would replace the current statues of Cosby on display at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame in Orlando and North Hollywood.
Edwards’ work depicts Bill Cosby completely naked with his arms extended and a miniature Fat Albert covering the genitals.
Edwards, 15, said in the news release ‘As a fan, I think I just felt compelled to depict two of Bill Cosby’s creations at odds with each other, because Bill Cosby seems to be at odds with what I always thought Dr. Huxtable stood for.’
Speaking to the Huffington Post earlier this month, Edwards said ‘I want people to see what Cosby is really like. I gave him a creepy look because he’s a creepy guy. I was a big Fat Albert fan until I found out how he really was.’
He continued ‘I just think if the allegations are true, then he should not be represented the way he is by the TV Hall of Fame. Until he apologizes, I think this is a more honest depiction of Cosby.’
