Beat the winter blues with Game and some of SA’s most loved talent

Calling all music lovers, get ready for the first ever Beat The Winter Blues virtual music festival. In a bid to keep the nation’s winter blues at bay, Game is partnering with some of the country’s most loved talent including Ard Matthews, Nhoza  Sitsholwana, Arno Carstens and Nhlanhla Majozi to bring music to its loyal customers during the month of June.

“South Africa is a nation of music enthusiasts, and our Winter Blues campaign is aimed at giving back to our loyal customers with the joy of music, especially during the winter season when spirits are often low. This is especially important this year, as the nation continues to face new and unknown challenges in the face of COVID-19,” says Katherine Madley, Marketing and Customer Director for Game.

“With all concerts cancelled due to Covid-19, social distancing and the lockdown levels, streaming performances has become the only way we as artists can stay connected with our fans. In light of this, it’s great to be part of a campaign where we get to do what we love and spread some joy, especially in times like these,” says Ard Matthews.

“To draw consumers and customers to want to join in from their computers and devices, and keep them engaged through-out, content must be relevant, entertaining and useful and what better way to do this than by spreading good cheer through music,” adds Madley.

“I’d like to thank Game for putting their support behind SA music. Through this campaign they’re helping to keep the arts alive by creating a platform for artists like myself to perform again,” says Arno Carstens.

The online performances will take place as follows on the Game social media pages:

  • Ard – 10 June, 7pm on Game’s Facebook page (still available for watch).
  • Nhoza – 12 June, 7pm on Game’s Facebook page.
  • Arno  – 17 June, 7pm on Game’s Facebook page.
  • Majozi – 19 June, 7pm on Game’s Facebook page.

“This is a great way to keep our current fans and new ones engaged to let them know that we are still making music despite Covid-19,” adds Nhoza.

“Spreading joy through our music is a privilege, and while we can’t perform in a venue on a stage in front of 100’s of fans as we would have in the past, having the opportunity to perform, even virtually from home, adds meaning and builds community,” adds Majozi.

Further to the online Beat the Winter Blues virtual music festival, for those customers visiting their nearest Game store, they will also be treated to a selection of talented, local buskers who will be playing live music in-store, all while strictly adhering to Game’s Covid-19 health and safety precautions. “We want to make standing in outside queues paired with long waiting times more bearable by adding some shopping pleasure,” explains Madley. 

In store performances will run from till 28 June at the following stores: Canal Walk and N1 City in Cape Town; Gateway and the Pavillion in Durban; and Cresta, Mall of Africa, Centurion, Menlyn, and Boksburg in Johannesburg.

What is Game doing to make it safe to shop in store?

  • Game is taking all necessary measures to increase hygiene in our stores, such as increasing the frequency of wiping down high touch point surfaces  such as till surfaces, pin pads, store shelving, as well as shopping trolleys and baskets. All Game stores have a deep-cleaning roster.
