It’s really tough not to be a nasty bitch to Bonang Matheba with the overwhelming wave of jealousy that floods ones psyche after basking in her glory first hand.
But I put my big boy panties on and went along to have an exclusive chat to the diva herself and witness the ‘Gumtree Crew’ collect several dozen of her handpicked possessions in preparation for Queen B’s Gumtree Boutique – a virtual shop which will see some of Bonang’s finest items put up for sale on gumtree.co.za/queenb from 2 June to 13 June.
Following in the footsteps of the major international celebs like Oprah and Kim Kardashian, she has graciously made her second hand luxury items available to us plebs.
Up for grabs will be some of her finest frocks, trendiest sunglasses, jewellery, designer handbags and several pairs of Queen B’s coveted stilettos.
The proceeds of Queen B’s Gumtree Boutique will be donated to the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
In addition to the funds raised through the sale of Bonang’s items, Gumtree will also donate an extra R100 000 to the worthy foundation. I am sure that’s a fair deal with Bonang bringing fashion, glamour and a mass of fans hungry to get their grubby hands on vintage Bonang to Gumtree.
Bonang says the toughest item to part with is the stunning floor-length Gavin Rajah dress which she wore to the Sentebale Gala in February 2013 where she hosted Prince Harry.
The dress would ordinarily retail for R20 000 but Gumtree haven’t released the retail prices just yet so let’s see how that turns out. Start saving.
“It’s not only about charity but I also want owners to feel good,” said Bonang when asked how she is going to select the new owners. Fans will be required to motivate why they are most deserving of the item in question.
Queen B’s Gumtree boutique is another first for our girl B. When asked what sets her apart from the hordes of wanna-be presenters Bonang says: “I took every opportunity and ran with it. I look for opportunities like this that are unique and are the first.”
This strategy is serving her well as her fame now transcend race boundaries; she is living the South African Dream. At 26, there is nothing this bombshell hasn’t conquered. Queen of radio, TV, fashion mag covers and now savvy business woman with her own production company, Woolies lingerie line and Revlon ambassador she has achieved more in her short life then most do in a lifetime. Feel yourself turning green yet?
So what’s next for the unofficial Miss South Africa? Bonang gave us an exclusive about her brand new live TV show launching in mid June: “I can’t say exactly what it is yet but it is very exciting”. Channel24 will keep our many eyes and ears on the ground to get those deets to you soon.
Don’t miss your chance to get your hands on Bonang’s belongings during Queen B’s Gumtree Boutique. Here is the how to guide before the boutique goes live. Owning your very own piece of Bonang (not a body part creep) might help to ease the pain of not living her fabulous lifestyle. Probably not though.
