Adding to the excitement, the club is proud to welcome outstanding new talent, including Andries Sesedi, Karabo More, and Karabo Motsoeneng, setting the stage for an extraordinary season ahead.
“We are thrilled to see Boxer AC not only retain its elite athletes but also welcome fresh talent for 2025,” says Lee-Ann Pillay, Head of Marketing at Boxer Superstores. “It’s exciting to watch our Boxer AC runners continue to perform at the highest level nationally, but we’re especially eager to see them exceed expectations at our very own events, the Boxer Super Run in Durban and Tshwane. Their success in these races, coupled with their impressive performances at other major events, truly showcases the strength and depth of the Boxer AC team. We look forward to a year filled with remarkable achievements, both on and off the track, as we continue to support these exceptional athletes.”
“We are immensely proud that all our existing Boxer AC athletes have chosen to re-sign with the club for 2025,” says
Rhyn Swanepoel, National Manager Boxer AC. “At Boxer AC, we operate on straightforward yet impactful principles—ensuring the small but crucial details are handled with the utmost professionalism. This includes seamless travel arrangements, comfortable accommodations, and the punctual payment of monthly retainers and incentives.
We also prioritize providing unwavering support to our athletes during challenges, whether it’s overcoming injuries, regaining form, or addressing personal issues. This commitment has fostered remarkable loyalty, with athletes staying with us for impressive durations—Tanith Maxwell for 16 years, Elroy Gelant for 9 years, Lebo and Lebogang Phalula for 10 years, Gladwin Mzazi for 9 years, Precious Mashele for 7 years, Kabelo Mulaudzi for 7 years, and Cornelia Joubert for 10 years.
There’s a profound sense of belonging within Boxer AC, which reflects the trust and commitment we’ve built over time.”
According to South African long-distance star Elroy Gelant, re-signing with Boxer AC is a pivotal decision in his career as a professional athlete.
“Re-signing reflects my commitment to a team that has been instrumental in my growth and development,” says Gelant. “Being part of Boxer AC enables me to continually refine my skills in a supportive and nurturing environment. I am fortunate to have the unwavering support of our professional manager, Mr. Rhyn Swanepoel, who believes in our potential and is dedicated to helping the club achieve its goals. The resources provided by the club are exceptional and have played a critical role in my development as a world-class athlete. The camaraderie among my teammates inspires me to push harder and challenge myself in ways I never imagined.
The club has been a cornerstone in helping me achieve both personal aspirations and professional milestones. In 2025, I aim to elevate my performance, representing Boxer AC with pride in top-tier events like the Absa RUN YOUR CITY SERIES and various South African Road Championships, particularly the SA 21km Championships, where I aspire to defend my national title. I also look forward to competing in the World Athletics Road Running Championships later in the year in San Diego, United States.
Beyond competition, I am passionate about giving back to the community through outreach programs that inspire young athletes to chase their dreams in sports. My relationship with Boxer AC drives me to strive for excellence in all these areas, and I am excited about the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead in 2025.”
Glenrose Xaba had an outstanding 2024 season, with impressive achievements including winning and setting a new national record in her debut at the Cape Town Marathon, winning the SPAR Grand Prix Title, setting a new national record at the Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K, taking 1st place at the inaugural Boxer Super Run 5K in Tshwane, 1st at the Totalsports Women’s Race in Joburg, and 1st at both the Absa RUN YOUR CITY TSHWANE 10K and the Absa RUN YOUR CITY JOBURG 10K, among many others.
“Re-signing with Boxer AC means so much to me as a professional athlete,” says Xaba. “It motivates and encourages me to perform at my best, knowing I am part of a special team filled with world-class athletes. Being with Boxer AC helps me stay focused on my goals, without the pressure to participate in races that don’t align with my plans. I’ve experienced both highs and lows, but the club has always supported me during the tough times. With my incredible club by my side, I’m committed to staying healthy, achieving new milestones, and continuing my success in 2025. Thank you, Boxer AC, for making it all possible.”
Boxer AC currently boasts a membership of 400–500 athletes and has set an ambitious goal of reaching 1,000 athletes by the end of 2025. The club has already begun expanding its roster with exciting new additions, including Andries Sesedi, Karabo More, and Karabo Motsoeneng.
“Karabo More joined Boxer AC in August 2024, making an immediate impact by winning the Boxer Super Run 5K in Durban and securing second place at the Boxer Super Run 5K in Tshwane,” continues Swanepoel. “Karabo Motsoeneng also delivered a standout performance, finishing in the top 10 at the Spar Women’s Challenge (10km) in Joburg. Meanwhile, Andries Sesedi, an SA 10km champion, has been part of our plans for the past two years, and we are thrilled to have him officially on board. We are excited to welcome these exceptionally talented athletes to Boxer AC and look forward to a fruitful partnership that benefits both the athletes and the club.”
