A 15-year old Cape Town girl has been hauled off a flight from Cape Town to Johannesburg. Whom authorities say she admitted she was on her way to join Islamic State fighters in the Middle East.
The State Security Ministry is now probing whether ISIS has a recruiting cell in South Africa. About 600 young Muslims are believed to have been recruited in Britain, to join the fighters in Syria.
Security Minister David Mahlobo says, “We are still conducting further investigation, the girl over the past period has been using technology on social media platforms interacting with strange people, and reading material that suggested she expressed an interest in joining a terrorist group called Isis, which is found in the Middle East and in some parts of the continent.”
She was arrested at Cape Town International Airport.
