Johannesburg, 28 February 2022 Local pop sensation Cara Frew follows up the success of her latest single ‘Rise’ with her breezy, infectious new single ‘Electric Feels’.
Always wearing her heart on her sleeve, Cara Frew sings about a forbidden love in the acoustic pop track. The singer opens up about an exciting romance with a man she knows will break her heart. However, their love is so electric that she can’t help but wonder if it’s worth taking a chance on him.

The earthy track is laced with a beautiful mix of pop vocals, organic production elements, African-inspired drums and is driven by acoustic guitar rhythms which allows the star to put her smooth vocals on full display.

“The acoustic guitar and stripped back elements in the song represent the rawness of love and how vulnerability is often the way in which to attain it,” Cara says on the musical composition of the track. She adds that the contrast with the big, pop vocals and elevated beats were purposely created to symbolise the electricity between the couple as well as to highlight his danger and her addiction to the chaos.

Cara penned the track in Los Angeles with multi-platinum writer Neil Ormandy. The song was then co-produced by LA-based Abe Dertner (who has worked with acts like Calum Scott and Walk The Moon) as well as SA hit-maker Daniel Baron. “Collaborating on ‘Electric Feels’ with top writers and producers in LA was a dream,” Cara explains. “However, bringing it home for final touches made the song that much more special. South Africa will always be home so being able to reflect where I come from in my work is magic.”

The music video for ‘Electric Feels’ sees Cara incorporating her love for horses to tell the song’s story in an honest and heartfelt way. Horses have always been a big part of Cara’s life, having competed for South Africa at the highest international level at the World Equestrian Games three times, and riding them in the video was a way for her to showcase the track’s personal, raw, vulnerable but fiery love.

Shot by Mat Van Geo at her farm in the Cradle of Humankind entirely on an iPhone, the visuals vibrantly capture this new-age cowgirl story with a twist. Watch the music video here.
