Cassper Nyovest refuses to back down despite threats of violence and protest from Zimbabwean nationals ahead of his show in the neighbouring country this week.
The message states “Dear Cassper Nyovest, tell your people to stop xenophobia or you’re not welcome! Yours Zimbabwe.”
Last week Cassper and numerous other musicians, who were set to perform in neighbouring African countries were threatened by foreigners standing against the ongoing Xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
The ‘Doc Shebeleza’ star found himself at the centre of a social media storm last week, after a post that threatened his show and life, went viral.
But Cassper has made it crystal clear that he will not succumb to the threats and his performance will go ahead as planned.
He said: “People are advising me to cancel my show in Bulawayo next week and I am not budging. I do not support xenophobia therefore my show is still on… My Zimbabwean fans are gonna come to my show. We are one Africa therefore we will dance together. I will come perform for my brothers.”
Reactions to Cassper’s statement was mixed, with some urging him to postpone the show until the xenophobia violence has abated. Phila Khumalo wrote on Cassper’s Facebook page: ‘all you think about is money bra, how can they dance when their people are dying man, no disrespect but show respect for them’ while Thato Radebe said: ‘You don’t wanna be the example they will set to what’s happening to their people here.’
Now, the rapper has pledged that he will perform for free in the country this weekend and donate all proceeds to survivors of Xenophobic attacks.
“What’s happening here at home is mad disgusting but I am coming to Zimbabwe. I will not live in fear to be in the hands of my brothers. Actually, I want to donate all my proceeds for my show in Zimbabwe next week to Xenophobia survivors. I will come perform for free,” he posted on Facebook.
