“Use only the best and freshest ingredients and don’t cut corners. Be consistent,” is among some of the best advice given to Shelley Olivier, co- owner of the Yiroll coffee shop at Springfield Retail Centre.
Her brother suggested buying the business years ago because of her bakery background. Even today, they make their own baguettes, bagels, croissants, buns, muffins, carrot cake/cakes and quiches on site.
“Our customers are mainly regulars. Often our business customers from during the week will bring their families over weekends. We have quite a large menu to choose from but find customers already know what they are going to order before they drive in the gate,” she explains.
Shelley attributes their success to a good team made up of staff who have been with the company for many years. Listening to feedback from customers and harnessing social media for marketing were also wise moves, she believes.
Going forward, her number one business goal continues to be making Yiroll a place where customers feel comfortable. “We have quite a few customers who have retired but still get going every morning and come for coffee. Business people arrive to catch up on emails and plan their days. Our location and ample parking makes us a popular venue for business meetings. I enjoy chatting with our customers. Many have become friends over the years.”
Shelley also admits that she enjoys time out with family and friends as well as reading, painting, crocheting or watching sport. “I’m also part of the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day group and love the opportunity to meet new friends and learn new crafts,” she adds.
